Dedicated to the preservation of Austin's five historic city cemeteries

Oakwood Chapel Project

The Chapel at Oakwood is a small charming building located near the west entrance of the cemetery. Originally used as a mortuary chapel, it has seen many residents pass through to their final resting places.

The years have taken their toll on the old building, and its purpose has changed radically over the years going from a mortuary chapel to an office and storage.

Minor repairs have been made to slow the decaying process; however, a more aggressive approach is required to preserve this small architectural gem.

Save Austin's Cemeteries' vision restores the building to be used for  memorial services, as well as a visitors center and cemetery history museum. In order to proceed with these goals, adoption of the Master Plan* by the City of Austin and fund raising is required.

Please review the Oakwood Chapel Structures Report*, photos, and drawings below for more information regarding the chapel and the cemetery.
